Les Contamines-Montjoie - the jewel in the crown of the Pays du Mont Blanc ski area. If you are tired of the characterless purpose-built ski resort then you will love Les Contamines. This is an ancient farming community with traditional architecture and mountain ways but with the well-oiled infrastructure of a serious ski resort.
Les Contamines has a permanent population of more than 1200 residents and as a result it has a proper community feel and many of the people you will come into contact with during your stay with us will be locals - whether it be the lift operators, ski instructors, shop keepers, or restaurateurs. As a result, like us, they are proud of their village and will want you to have a great holiday.
At an altitude of 1164m and nestled under the Mont-Blanc massif, Les Contamines-Montjoie lies at the end of a secret valley beyond the beautiful spa town of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains and only 20 minutes from the A40 motorway.
This vibrant village has 2 beautiful baroque churches which are open to visitors. 5500 hectares of alpine terrain has been designed for Nature Reserve - daily guided walks are available to discover the fauna and flora.
The Tourist Office issues a weekly program of events - available in the chalet - which includes a welcome drink in the village centre as well as details of the many events which the village hosts - World Cup of Ski and Boarding Competitions, Night time cross country skiing, Children's races and activities for non-skiers.
There is a helpful Tourist Office, post office, ATM's, a couple of small supermarkets, plus souvenir and gift shops.
There is a traditional weekly market and of course a pharmacy and a medial centre which are open daily.
