Self Protection

Of course, with anywhere in the world, the ski conditions are changeable, especially in the mountains. Here, the weather can change quite rapidly...you may be skiing in the freezing cold first thing in the morning but pretty quickly the sun can peek out and before you know it, you’re skiing in beautiful sunshine...with one of the many spectacular glaciers as a backdrop. Hope you remembered to pack your sunscreen, sunglasses or goggles and lip balm!

Naturally, the sun does not always shine, (although we wish it did!) and the wind can get up a little – making for pretty chilly conditions up on the hill. Whether skiing or boarding, you should be prepared for the worst as the weather can close in unexpectedly. We always advise that you carry with you a warm hat of some sort - preferably something that will also cover your ears - and of course, goggles to keep the wind out of your eyes. Lip balm is essential to avoid sun and wind damage to lips. At Chalet Chovettaz, we keep in stock a supply of specially selected sunscreens, sun block and lip-balms; just in case you’ve forgotten to bring your own.

It is so important to eat well and drink plenty of fluids whilst skiing or snowboarding - you’ll be surprised just how many calories you burn and how dehydrated you can become buzzing up and down the slopes.
